DIY Vanilla Brown Sugar Lip Scrub

Dry chapped lips not only hurt and are uncomfortable but they are SUPER unattractive (like really who wants to feel like they are making out with a brill pad). Oh, and if you want to show off your new lipstick then you need to have a good base. When lips are exfoliated color not only goes on smoother but they will absorb moisture better, allowing for your lips to look and feel healthier. In Last weeks post, Six Winter Skin Care Tips For Radiant Skin, I talked about the importance of exfoliation and recommended Fresh’s Brown Sugar Lip Scrub to keep your pucker kissable all winter long. If you don’t have the $24 dollars to splurge on a lip exfoliant, never fear you can easily recreate my favorite lip scrub yourself. It takes 5 minuets and you likely have all the ingredients you need in your kitchen. This is a DIY anyone can do!

What You Need

1 TBSP  Organic Coconut Oil

1 TSP Vitamin E Oil

2 TBSP Organic Brown Sugar

1 TBSP Raw Sugar

1 1/2 TBSP Raw Honey

1/4 TSP Organic Vanilla Extract

Why These Ingredients Work

Sugar A great natural exfoliant that is not too harsh and leaves skin soft to the touch; Sugar also has anti-bacterial properties (which is why it’s used to preserve food).

Coconut Oil is rich in vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids which allow it to nourish and rejuvenate and protect skin.

Honey is a nutrient rich substance with an impressive array of vitamins and minerals with trace amounts of amino acids and antioxidants. Not only is it a killer nutrient for your lips but it acts as a glue, holding all the ingredients together. and also has moisturising qualities of its own.

Vitamin E Oil It is like the All Star of Natural moisturizers + the antioxidant power of this oil helps to restore damaged skin cells.

Vanilla Vanilla is a good source of B-Vitamins like niacin, thiamin, Vitamin B6 and pantothenic acid which play an important role in the maintenance of healthy skin. The antioxidant properties of vanilla protect your skin from damage caused by environmental pollutants and toxins.

And The How To.....

Mix the coconut oil, Vanilla extract, and honey until they bind together. Make sure to mash up all of the coconut lumps so that the mixture is clump-free. This will serve as the base of the scrub.

Add Sugars and fold into the oil and honey base. Once Fully combined add your teaspoon of Vitamin E Oil. This will help smooth out the mixture and make the scrub extra moisturizing.

Transfer the scrub from the bowl into a a small jar for storage.

Keep scrub stored in Fridge. Before using, allow the scrub to stand at room temperature for a good 10 minutes so that the formula softens a bit.

How To Use

Gently rub the scrub onto your lips. Let it sit for 1 minute, and then wipe off with a damp washcloth. Apply your favorite lip balm after use.

Don’t overuse this, I repeat DO NOT OVER USE! Over exfoliating causes excessive dryness. This scrub is a great tool when it comes to dealing with chapped and peeling lips (it also taste and smells amazing) but when it comes to lip scrubs there is such thing as too much of a good thing.
