DIY 3 Day Juice Cleanse x2
In my opinion cold pressed, organic juice is the best thing you can put into your body. Because of the cold pressed method of juicing you can pack the most nutrients into 1-2 servings of juice. I will post more information about juicing and the differences between cold pressed, centrifuge, etc. but for now here are the ingredients and steps you can take at home to create a 3 day juice cleanse for 2, or stock your fridge with juice for a week. It only takes $200-pretty cheap for the amount of juice produced and benefits... and 3-4 hours of your time I think it took me a full 3 hours from start to finish with cleanup.. a bit more of a commitment, but worth it. BONUS if you get your juicing mate to help!
*Note: Always consult your doctor before undergoing a juice cleanse, especially if you have any health conditions. Be sure to drink a lot of water in between each juice throughout the day (it seems like you are drinking a lot..which you are, but the juice doesn't have enough water to hydrate you sufficiently and you will feel a lot better throughout if you stay extra hydrated so don't forget the H2O)

Produce: It is important to buy all organic produce in general, however when you are planning on juicing the produce it is even more critical. Juicing the produce allows you to pack pounds of fruits and vegetables into 1-2 servings, giving you a high concentration of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Unfortunately if you use non-organic produce you will also receive a high concentration of pesticides in your juice alongside the nutrients. To clean your produce you can fill a large pot with water, baking soda, lemon. This is a great organic combo to really clean the produce. Use a produce scrubber and clean your produce. You can also easily just rinse the produce and remove any obvious dirt. Leafy greens should be processed as you would a salad, rinsing any dirt off and drying them in a salad spinner.

Set up your "Kill Room"-did anyone watch Dexter? I kind of get that vibe when I'm getting ready to juice... especially if there's beets because they can look like blood splatter if you're not careful. I cut up garbage bags and line the counters, then place sheet pans (usually 3-4) and put my juicer on top of the pan to catch any excess juice. I place a dish towel on top of the juicer in case of cold pressing blowouts and have all of my supplies nearby and ready for action (vessels to catch the juice in, larger vessels to pour the juice into, strainer etc.)
-
Start by making your green juice. I first juice the celery and romaine and kept that separate from the other greens just because I wanted the celery flavor to stand out in the spicy beet juice (bloody mary-esque) recipe below. You can totally juice all of the greens and combine them altogether... Juicing the celery first, be sure to clear your masticating grinder screen (in cold pressed juicer) often as celery has a lot of fiber. Once you juice all of the celery and romaine juice combine into a large jar and store in the fridge until you're ready for mixing.
-
Next I juice all of the remaining greens, kale, chard, cucumber and any beet/carrot greens if you had any. I juice the kale, chard and beet/carrot greens first, again they have a lot of fiber so clear your screen often. I follow with the cucumber since they are more juicy and will clear the masticator of the remaining leafy greens that might have gotten stuck in there. For juicier fruits and veggies like cucumbers I usually put a strainer over the bowl I use to catch the masticated produce since a lot of the juice comes out in the first pass of masticating and you can pour that straight into your final juice vessel.
-
Once you've gotten all the greens out of the way it's mostly downhill from there..sort of.. I juice the carrots next, they can be somewhat of a pain since they aren't very juicy. I listed the produce shopping list in the order I juice in. Pour carrot juice into a jar and keep separate. Refrigerate after juicing.
-
Juice apples, keep separate, refrigerate after juicing.
-
Juice pineapples, keep separate (only will need a small jar for these) refrigerate after juicing
-
If you're juicing with a regular juicer you should remove the skin, which adds bitterness, and then juice citrus (lemons, oranges, grapefruit). For anyone using a cold pressed juicer you can juice the citrus with the skin on just by wrapping with juicing cloth and pressing with the hydraulic press or you can even use an old fashioned citrus squeezer/juicer for the citrus. Combine citrus in it's own jar and refrigerate until mixing.
-
Juice the beets, keep them separate, and refrigerate. I sometimes give the juicing equipment a rinse after juicing beets, but the remaining ingredients all will go into a beet juice recipes so you can just keep on trucking.
-
Juice peppers together first and then add tomatoes last (again the juicier fruit will clear the machine and maximize flavor)
-
Woohoo you did it! Hopefully you're kitchen isn't a total mess... and you're Mom's isn't screaming at you for getting beets on the ceiling...I don't know how, but it happens. Now clear the area for the mixing process. Don't clean up too much since there is still risk of spillage. Mix the following juice recipes as follows:

- 3 Cups Green mix
- 3/4 cup tomato
- 3/4 cup pepper blend
- 1 T cayenne powder (optional, if you love heat)

- There was a lot of green juice, so much so that we were able to each have 2 green juices a day, but it was too much that I didn't get to measure the final measurements for the greens.
- I took what was left of the greens and celery/romaine blends, added them together and depending on YOUR taste you can add:
- Ginger
- Lemon
- Apple
- Spirulina
- Chlorella
- Cayenne
Nut Milk Recipes
Nut Milks are always a joy during a juice cleanse. I think it's the creamier, comforting texture that can help get you through some of the days that seem tough.
Cashew Milk
Ingredients
- 4 C Cashews, soaked (drain the water off and add fresh water for blending)
- 16 C filtered water
Pour 2 cups soaked, drained nuts and 8 cups water into a high speed blender and blend for 1-2 minutes until all solids have blended. You don’t want to blend it too much because it will add heat to the mixture, but make sure the cashews are pulverized with no solids left behind.
If you are using any nut besides cashews you will now need to drain the mixture through a cheesecloth. This can get messy, my best advice is to pour the entire mixture into a mason jar, then cover the lid of the mason jar with a cheesecloth and pour the mixture back into another, larger container, bowl, or the cleaned blender. Reserve the nut pulp that is remaining for baking or another recipe (recipes to come). If you are using cashews they are higher in fat and lower in fiber so they blend nicely into a creamy nut milk without leaving a gritty meal behind.
Repeat with the remaining 2 cups nuts and 8 cups water. (They all can't fit into one blending batch)
Hemp Milk
1 Cup Hemp Seeds
6-8 Cups Water-depending on your thickneess
Blend on high, drain if smoother consistency is desired, but leave unstrained for optimal nutrition.
You now have your plain nut milk base or hemp milk base. You can leave it as is to replace milk in recipes, creamer in coffee, etc. Or you can use your creativity to make some yummy nut milk desserts that are great meal replacements, post workout drinks, or a healthier alternative to sugary sweets.
Dandy Blend Latte
This amazing blend is seriously delicious and addicting.
- 8 Cups Nut Milk
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla bean powder
- 4 Tablespoons Dandy Blend
- 4 Tablespoons Coconut Palm sugar (can substitute dates, or maple syrup)
Blend Blend Blend all ingredients together and refrigerate until you decide to enjoy this yumminess!
Chocolate Maca Milk
- 8 cups nut milk
- 4 T Maca
- 6 T Cacao
- 1/2 cup dates
- 1/2 tsp salt
Blend all ingredients, adjust superfoods/sweeteners to taste. Enjoy icy cold.
This is a lot to take in. You can use this post to try out 1 or 2 juice recipes to ease yourself into juicing. If you don't have the time to juice all of this all at once you can divvy out the ingredients into mason jars and make a single juice every AM from the pre-prepped/measured produce.
Let me know anything I can clarify or questions you have! What would you like to see next? More juicing? A juicing time lapsed video? Lemme know.
