Arnica and Cannabis Infused Whipped Shea Butter....A DIY Cannabliss Muscle Rub
Whether you're sore from tearing it up at the gym or just plain achy from the way you sit at your desk all day it important to show your muscles some love. Seriously though, most of us complain about muscle tension on the regular, but rarely do we take the time to actually do something about it. I get it you're too busy or you just flat out don’t have the money to treat yourself to monthly massages. So this post is for all of us out there, yes myself included, who need to slow our roll and take the time and show your bodies a little bit of TLC. So here it is an easy to make muscle rub to help ease inflammation and induce relaxation. No excuses! You can affordably make this yourself. You don’t need to spend $200 at a spa to treat yourself to an at home muscle rub. If you claim you don’t have time this DIY takes 20 minutes, if that, and another 5 to rub yourself down. I warn you though you may want to melt into a chair upon application!
The Stuff That Makes It Work
Cannabis Oil : Studies have shown cannabinoids to inhibit neuronal transmission in pain pathways. Topically applied cannabis oil has the ability to relieve chronic pain and inflammation without any type of psychoactive effect.
Lavender Essential Oil : The anti-inflammatory and analgesic action of lavender essential oil can relieve body aches resulting from sore muscles. One study found that lavender used as part of an acupressure treatment helped reduce lower back pain by 39 percent.
Peppermint Essential Oil: Peppermint essential oil gives a cooling sensation and has a calming effect on the body, which can relieve sore muscles when used topically. It is an excellent natural painkiller and muscle relaxant. It’s especially helpful in soothing sore muscles, an aching back and melting away a tension headache.
What You Need…….
1/4 cup Arnica Infused Oil (recipe to come!)
1/2 cup Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil
1/2 cup Shea Butter
1/2 cup of Coco Butter
.25 ounce Peppermint Oil
.25 ounce Lavender Oil
1 tsp cornstarch
Mason Jars For Storage
The Process
When it comes to making body butters there are two differing schools of thought; there are those who insist on the use of heat in the process to obtain the best texture and then their are those believe that the use of little to no heat yields the best results. Personally I go with the no heat method and here’s why…...
Advantages Of The No Heat Method
Whipping butter and oil cold gives instant control of the final texture of your whipped body cream recipe.
Heating up certain vegetable oils effects their properties, so in using them cold, you’re saving the benefits of the cold pressed vegetable oil for your skin.
Essential oils, for both skin care and a lovely, natural fragrance, are just as sensitive to heat. Essential oils can be added at any time, since the mixture doesn’t need to cool down first – again, without the risk of losing (some) therapeutic properties.
Fill a bowl with hot water; submerge jar of coconut oil into hot water and let sit until oil has melted. DO NOT USE BOILING WATER! Coconut oil has a very low melting point (76° F) so the water does not need to be any hotter then hot tap water. Remember using the least amount of heat possible helps to preserve the oils natural healing properties.
Combine the arnica oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and coconut butter in a blender.
Transfer oils from blender into mixing bowl and add the peppermint oil, lavender oil, and cornstarch.
Whip oils on medium-high for ten minuets or until the oils become fluffy.
DO NOT STORE IN FRIDGE!! Storing whipped shea butter in the refrigerator may cause it to become grainy. Store it in a cool, dark place, in a plastic or glass container with a lid.
Enjoy!
