Very excited to FINALLY be sharing this interview I did with Lauryn Bosstick founder of The Skinny Confidential lifestyle blog, book and podcast host. This badass babe has been blogging for over 8 years now! I happened upon her perfectly SEO optimized blog post back in college circa uhmmm 2010? when I was researching juice cleanses. I have been HOOKED on the TSC vibes ever since. She is health and wellness focused with real AF posts where she GOES THERE and talks about real shit that no one else is talking about. She’s relatable and an all around badass Boss Babe!
The few times I’ve met her at blogger conferences she is genuine, approachable and always remembers all of her readers and graciously takes photos and videos with everyone and is always looking to support her audience in any businesses that they are promoting. You don’t even need to ask for a photo with her because she is asking you if she can feature you on her stories or snapchat. She is EXACTLY how she puts herself out there, her blog and social media voice reflects how she is in real life and it’s refreshing!
A real influencer with an audience that you want to be BFF with everyone that’s a part of it. If you’re not in her secret Facebook group you need to get on it because it’s the most LIT group I'm in right now and I’ve picked up some great tips, met some wonderful women (IRL!) and had some good laughs.

Here are some of her HOT TIPS for blogger babes that we asked her.
ANNA: In growing your brand you have mentioned changing strategy and direction a few times before you really discovered what was working for you. In your business how did/do you distinguish between just needing to be patient versus realizing that something is actually not working?
LAURYN: The more you REALLY put yourself out there the more you see what works for you and what doesn’t. Ive always been a very big fan of corresponding with my audience in a very personal way. (exhibit A: this interview and ALL of the other ones she takes the time to do!).
I saw there was a need for that when I would see huge bloggers get questions from their audience and not respond. It’s not their due diligence to respond, but that’s our job. The reason we’re able to become bloggers full time is because of the audience.
I didn’t understand that and decided to go the opposite way, but not just the opposite the EXTREME opposite way and I think that how I pivoted and evolved my strategy is through talking to my audience and really listening and hearing what they say. They kind of dictate the direction of the content.
I think Tony Robbins always says, “If you want to be successful look at someone’s formula, but if you want to remarkable create your own formula”
I’ve always tried to do my own formula and I try not to look at other people’s Instagram stories and consume other people’s content because I think that if you’re so wrapped up in consuming everyone else’s content it takes the focus off of what you’re trying to do and it seeps through into your content.
Like I really try to focus on my own shit, beat to the tune of my own drum and do things how I want to do it and at the same time understand that i’m not going to capture everyone, not everyone is going to like me, but I am going to capture a certain audience and I think that instead of neglecting that audience and looking to gain more followers I always focus on the audience that I have.
I can’t stress this enough It’s been 8 Years.
8 years! It’s definitely not an overnight thing and I have a long way to go. Definitely keep in mind that i’ve been blogging EVERY DAY for 8 years.
ANNA: Who Inspires you and your business?
LAURYN: I’m inspired by masculine energy, I don’t know why I just am and that’s my really honest answer it’s maybe not the popular answer. For some reason I like the aggressive-ness of a Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuk, Tim Ferris.
I’m inspired by tons of women as well, strong women. I think when I say masculine energy I’m not saying just males it’s just masculine energy in general. Oprah has masculine energy. Theres a lot of really strong women who have masculine energy, Angelina Jolie has masculine energy, Jilliian Michaels has masculine energy. I like that kind of energy because I find it to be very much like a DOER and I like to do I don’t like to talk I like to do.
I would say what inspires me are podcasts. I’m constantly trying to learn I never want to feel like I know everything. My husband and I read a lot. My husband is a HUGE reader and he always is reading me quotes or passages or tons of books we lay in bed at night and he’s constantly just flooding in new information. Im a big reader. I’m a big fan of autobiographies, right now i’m actually reading Victoria Beckham’s its really good because you would think that she’s just a spice girl and now she’s married to David Beckham, but there’s so much more thats gone into her business and she has masculine energy.
I think that that strong, aggressive energy really inspires me whether you’re a man or a woman.
Carolyn Bassette has masculine energy I just applied her perfume and it’s a masculine scent, the egyptian musk oil.
ANNA: What do you feel like is your biggest accomplishment in your business thus far?
LAURYN: You know what, I really don’t get too wrapped up in accomplishments. Literally I can’t even think of something off of the top of my head that gets me going. Im always trying to do better and I’m always focused on forward. I try not to get wrapped up in my press clippings. And my Dad told me that when I was really young he said, “don’t get wrapped up in your press clippings” like DON’T DRINK THE KOOL-AID. I think it’s so amazing to read nice articles or be featured somewhere, but I really try to detach from it and not let it get to my head. As far as accomplishments I guess I would say writing a book was a big one, but I just feel like I haven’t even nicked the potential of where I want to go that I don’t know. I don’t know what an accomplishment would be I just don’t really think like that.
I just think: moving forward, systems, strategies to get to where I want to be. I’m very much, I try to always be a visionary is what I want to do and I have such a big vision for The Skinny Confidential that I just feel like there’s so much more to do.
I’ve seen bloggers get comfortable and they don’t evolve their content. I can think of huge bloggers that are out there that haven’t evolved their content and they’ve just stuck with being comfortable and it shows. I’m always trying to learn, evolve, change and pivot and move where consumer attention goes.
Later in the conversation we talk about the personal experience and meeting new friends through the Facebook group and how incredible the community is there:
My biggest accomplishment is launching that Facebook group and being able to see the 8 years of work that i’ve put into the community come together and create such a synergy. Finally there was a place where I could connect with everyone I had spent so much time connecting with and they could connect with each other and it wasn’t about me anymore which is what I wanted the whole time. I wanted everyone else in the community to build relationships and that’s what I wanted from the very very beginning. My biggest accomplishment is seeing the community come together like that.
ANNA: What is the most common mistake you see bloggers making?
LAURYN: The biggest mistake overall, hands down, 100% is not engaging with the community. I think it’s SUCH a mistake and SUCH a short term strategy and you know maybe it will make you feel like a celebrity for two years, but you’re not a celebrity you’re a blogger and its a different game. If an influencer is not telling where you got your outfit or not answering DMs and you know, I try to answer as many DMs as possible I get that sometimes you can’t get to every single person, but I spend at least an hour if not 2 on DMs, email, youtube and I’m IN there i’m in with the community talking to them, engaging with them, my #1 thing is my community and I see a lot of bloggers leading with something different and that’s fine that might work for them, but I think a long term strategy would definitely be to stop looking at how many more followers you can get and start focusing on the ones that you have even if it’s 100. They will go out and will talk about you that’s the community. If you don’t focus on whats in front of you and the community that’s supporting you and you focus on what you don’t have its just kind of a losing formula.
ANNA: If you had to recommend one and only one social platform to focus one to help drive traffic to a blog what would you choose?
LAURYN: Instagram Stories. It’s 50% of my business right now. I am on there, I am engaging I am DMing, I am swiping up, I am directing traffic, I am telling stories. There are SO many things you can do with stories to be creative it’s unbelievable.
This part of the interview got cut off so this is not direct quotes just the jist from her answer:
She likes to always tie together stories in 3-5 parts. Continue the theme of your story over 3-5 snaps. A beginning, middle and end. Tell a story your audience gains value from whether it’s educational or entertaining.
Always be utilizing the stories to your full advantage. Be present on instagram stories and again generate value to your followers. Be one of the stories they want to watch.
Make it high quality and keep it consistent. Tell A STORY.
I am constantly inspired by her creative force building her brand. The hustle and hard work really shines through. Every time I listen to her podcast or watch a 3-5 part business tip on her Instagram stories or even re-listenign to this interview I am motivated to get to WERK and continue chipping away at Gigi and I’s business. Her and her husband are total GO GETTERS, no nonsense entrepreneurs and it’s seriously inspiring.
This is just a small taste of the business savvy brains behind this beauty.
