Facts about Fats
First of all the No Fat/Low Fat diet trend is SO 1990’s. At least 20-35% of your daily calories should come from fats, but not just any fats, Healthy Fats. I'm sure you've heard about the Ketogenic diet. If not you should read this book Fat for Fuel by Dr. Joseph Mercola or get some research on his website mercola.com. I will be doing a more in depth post on ketogenic or as he calls it MMT Mitochondrial, metabolic therapy. It focuses on fueling your body with fats and switching from burning glucose to burning fat.
Healthy Pumpkin Roll
I had been CRAVING a healthy version of a pumpkin roll since October, but since I was moving and traveling I couldn't create one until now. Since I've been settled in to my new house this month I have already made this recipe twice to ensure I get it right.
Healthy Holiday Eating
They call it “Holiday weight” for a reason. It’s easy for us to lose sight of our health goals over the holiday season. Frequent eating, drinking, and being merry have a clear nutritional dark side. Other less obvious factors can contribute to weight gain around the holidays including: increased stress levels, travel, and the interruption of routine. Here are some tips for avoiding the holiday bulge.
Healing Vegan Broth
The holidays are upon us the weather is getting colder and all of this can leave us feeling drained and more susceptible to catching a virus. The healing, buzzy bone broth is readily available at local grocery stores to remedy that and even on tap at different market places. I have been jealous of the locals sipping on their bone broths while shopping for local goods so I decided to create a vegan broth that is packed with even more nutrients and benefits than any old bone broth can offer.
Afternoon Energy Boost that's Healthier than Coffee
Gigi and I love whipping up Dandy Blend Lattes. I personally don't drink coffee although I love the taste I am way too sensitive to the caffeine. A perfect alternative is Dandy Blend tea it gives an energy boost like caffeine, without the crash and anxiety. Plus it tastes reminiscent of coffee from the roasted herbs and roots that make up the blend.
RIDICULOUS Vegan Lasagna
Lasagna is one of the favorite dishes in our household, but I don't always take the time to make it because it's not necessarily the most healthy dinner. All those layers of pasta with mozzarella and ricotta is just HEAVY. For my man's birthday I always make him a lasagna so when I went to make him one this year I decided to lighten it up a bit and he was SHOCKED when I told him it was completely vegan. This recipe is addicting and I think I might have eaten more of this batch of lasagna than him this time around. oops. HBD! lol
